Causer Resolution Honors Maple Producers Week in PA
3/12/2013

HARRISBURG – The state House has approved a resolution designating March 17-24 as Maple Producers Week in Pennsylvania.

“Pennsylvania’s maple industry is an important contributor to our local economy,” Causer said. “And once you’ve tried real Pennsylvania maple syrup, you’ll never go back to plain old pancake syrup again.”

Pennsylvania ranks fifth nationally in maple syrup production, yielding 96,000 gallons of syrup from 501,000 taps across the Commonwealth. Total sales in 2011 were $5.1 million. Maple sap is also used to make butter, candies and caramels, taffy and cotton candy and more.

Several maple producers across the state host “Maple Taste and Tour” weekends during the month of March. The events include open houses at maple syrup operations, samples and demonstrations.

The Potter-Tioga Maple Syrup Producers Association will hold its event on March 23-24. For more information about activities and participating producers, visit pamaple.com/MapleWeekend.htm
