Causer Resolution Honors PA Maple Producers
3/11/2014
HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives is again recognizing the state’s maple producers by approving a resolution to designate March 16-23 as Maple Producers Week in Pennsylvania.

“There’s nothing quite like maple syrup made right here in Pennsylvania,” Causer said. “And our maple producers are also important contributors to our local and statewide economies. In fact, Pennsylvania ranks fifth nationally in maple syrup production.”

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 2013 the state produced 134,000 gallons of syrup from 583,000 taps. Maple sap is also used to make butter, candies, caramels, taffy, cotton candy and more.

Several maple producers across the state host “Maple Taste and Tour” weekends during the month of March. The events include open houses at maple syrup operations, samples and demonstrations.

The Potter-Tioga Maple Syrup Producers Association will hold its 10th Annual Maple Weekend on March 22-23. For more information about activities and participating producers, visit pamaple.com/MapleWeekend.htm.
