Causer Honors Retired WWII Museum Curator
Steve Appleby, a fixture at the Eldred World War II Museum for more than 15 years, recently retired as the museum’s curator and was recognized for his service with a state House citation presented by Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter). Appleby joined the museum staff in 2008, having previously served as a volunteer. He did everything from outdoor maintenance and landscaping to cleaning and fundraising and then served as executive director and promotions director. He retired earlier this year as curator, but he will continue to support the museum in a volunteer role as both curator emeritus and director of education and programs. Appleby is also a long-time member of the armed services, having joined the U.S. Army in 1979 and later transferring to the Pennsylvania Army National Guard from which he was honorably discharged in 2006.
